I lied...

At Bea's last dental appointment we were informed that she had a cavity. (I figured this would happen eventually because she's so bad about brushing her teeth. And I'm sorry, but I'm just too busy to always keep reminding her.)  We had to make an appointment to get it filled. I was nervous for her. I hate the sound of the drill! And I always get a little panicked when I hear it... thanks to my old dentist who tried to fix a gap in my tooth.... anyways... I wasn't sure what I should tell her, if anything. The dentist said: "Don't tell her anything, I'll explain it all at the appointment." I was good with that! The day of the appointment Bea asked me how they were going to get the cavity out. I lied and said: "I don't know... we'll have to see when we get there." I felt bad. But I didn't want her to freak out like I did/do!

Once in the dentist's chair the dentist went through everything. He said he was going to 'blow out the cavity bugs with water from this. (He showed her the drill minus the drill head.) When she was all numbed up and ready to go, she said her cheek felt all weird and fat. The dentist went to work with his drill and I was sitting there, watching with Millie on my lap methodically rubbing the back of her hand. I was SO worried for her! Then Bea started to make a little "ahh" noise and I was thinking: "Oh God! It's me all over again!!!" (The same thing had happened to me! The numbing stuff was wearing off or wasn't all over the place and I could feel the drill!! And my stupid dentist was saying: "There's no crying!" He finally pulled the drill out long enough for me to say: "It's hurting!" JERK!!!) But Bea's dentist was basically done by then and before we knew it her tooth was filled.

I told her how proud I was of her being so brave. She said it hurt a little bit, but mostly just felt weird and tingly. And she also said she was a little scared but she wanted to be brave for me and the dentist. I love that stinker girl so much!
