DIY

I was up to my usual DIY self this weekend... well... okay, more like Izak and my dad were. :) Somehow, thanks to my mom, we came to the decision to get laminate flooring. We thought if we did this we'd help out Bea's supposed allergies and therefore we'd get to keep the cats a little bit longer. What seemed like a relatively easy process quickly turned into a whole house remodel. Okay, so not really but...after the molding came up and the floor went down we realized we'd have to get thicker molding to cover the tiny slots where you couldn't possibly cut wood to fit into them. I also realized, but I've known this for quite some time, that I really do need to paint the main room. Buuuut.... where do I find the time, the funds, etc to do such a chore!? Ugh... I just can't think about it. Anyways, the floor is down, it looks fabulous! The house looks bigger already! Now I just have to clean because there is dust everywhere! Again, where do I find the time, not to mention the energy to do that!? UGH!

October is turning out to be a busy month for me!

Oh, Friday night we discovered that Bea has her first tooth! You can't see it, but you can sure feel it. (Have there been any cases of ones nipple being bitten off by their infant??) Also, Bea can clap and wave 'hello' and 'goodbye.' So many tiny milestones in one day! I was a bit overwhelmed and told her emphatically to stop growing now. I don't think she'll listen.

My mom bought Bea a Play School 'house' that Bea can crawl around. It's a free standing house facade I guess you can call it. It has a door and a window that opens and closes, a mailbox with letters, it sings and has various sounds... oh, and a light switch which turns the lights on and off. It's so fun! I think my mom and I were enjoying it more than Bea when we were putting it together. We found ourselves singing: 'A tisket, a tasket a green and yellow basket, lalalalala and on the way I lost it.' We couldn't seem to remember the rest of the song! Oh well. :)

What a Day!

Yesterday was quite a day for Bea and I. It started as the seemingly lazy Sunday I hoped it would be, but then Grandma came over! Grandma had been clothes shopping for Bea, more specifically, dress shopping for a dress for her to wear to her cousin Bean's wedding in November. She found two possible ones. Although we decided on the dressier one for the wedding and the kind of dressy one for the bridesmaid's luncheon. Grandma wanted to try them on Bea. So we did. The dressy one first. It looked great and Bea smiled when we put it over her head. She liked it a lot. The second one was a different story. Bea started fussing before we could even get it all the way on her, so we took it off. We changed her diaper shortly after and she seemed calmer so we tried the dress again. This time we were able to get it on. It looked so cute too. Bea had found the tags hanging from the sleeve and tried to chew on them. Grandma and I kept taking the tags out of her mouth. But somehow Bea managed to chew a corner off! I squealed in anguish, 'Mom what do we do!?' Grandma quickly grabbed Bea and turned her upside down and patted her on the back while I shoved my fingers in her mouth, trying to get her to gag it up. No luck. She puked a little but it was just her cereal that she had eaten. We rushed her out to the kitchen and gave her water then some of her apple juice. Bea was breathing fine. And she only seemed upset when we had turned her over. I guess Bea will have some paper in her poo this week. I'm so thankful that she didn't choke on it!

After all the excitement Grandma left and it was time for Bea's nap. I put her in her crib and turned her music on. She was fine for a while. But then she started crying. At first I thought I would just let her cry herself to sleep but something made me go sneak a peak at her.... and it's a good thing I did! She was on her hands and knees with her back to me. And her left leg was completely through one of the rail slats on her crib! She was stuck! And she has a little scrape now along her thigh. I think from trying to get free herself. :( Poor thing! It was all that I could take yesterday! So I swept her up out of her crib and cuddled with her and then let her sleep on her Daddy's tummy for her nap. What a stressful Sunday!

To end the day Bea started to crawl! I couldn't believe it. We were lying on the floor watching T.V and I saw her get up on her hands and knees to try to reach a dish that I had set aside on the floor. I watched her kind of wiggle her way to the dish. It was sort of like she was hopping on her knees. I pulled her back and she did it again, this time a little more coordinated! So Izak and I filmed her crawling for the first time! And we even called up my parents online to show them. I was fine with Bea forever rolling, but apparently she was not! So now I've got a crawler on my hands. Next week we'll have to show Ouma and Oupa! (But here are a couple of 'shorts' from our phones!)

They say...

They say it's impossible to break an empty hallowed out ostrich egg. But Bea just broke one of two yesterday. There goes that theory. :) It wasn't all her fault. The eggs were in a flimsy 'bowl', that I bought while in South Africa, on the bottom tier of our coffee table. Somehow Bea rolled off her mat, like she always does, and managed to hit the bowl, which in turn sent the bowl wobbling for stability, but since it's poorly made (no offensive to the 'hard worker' who made it) it could not find stability and thus rolled over enough to let one of the ostrich eggs escape. Which then fell onto the tile and broke open. All the while Bea just looked at me, watching my facial expressions. All I could do was stand there and watch to see the event unfold. I don't know why I didn't try to run to catch it. Maybe I wanted to see if it would really break? Or maybe I just thought, it's an empty egg. No big deal. I'm not going to trample my daughter to save an empty egg. :)

This morning I was watching Bea on her mat again. She initially was sitting upright, but somehow managed to get onto her tummy. She was trying to play with Neko. When he left to eat his breakfast she looked around at her many toys to decide which one she wanted to play with. She saw the cell phone her fairy godmother, Randi, had bought her and tried as hard as she could to get it. She refuses to crawl, so once she discovered that her movements were futile she opted for the smart way out. She just pulled the mat towards her, and voila! That cell phone was in her hands within seconds. Such a smart girl.

It always amazed me how many people cared about whether or not I was going to breast feed. I mean aside from the family, friends, doctors, nurses... seemingly 'strangers' would ask. (And I don't mean strangers off the street. I just mean people I would have thought just wouldn't care.) I remember there being such strong opinions for breast feeding. And I mean, 'It's the only way' type of opinion. I chose to breast feed. I hoped that things would go smoothly and so far they have. I hope to continue to breast feed Bea till she's a year. But we'll see. I'm open. I don't really have any strong opinions for or against. I do feel that if you're not going to give it a try, that's sad. I do feel that if you're just doing the minimum so you don't have to do it for a year, just so you can drink, is selfish. But hey. I suppose I can't judge. Who would actually tell me that they chose not to breast feed just so they can drink? Maybe I'm making that up for those people. Anyways. There's my two cents on the matter.

It's been a while.

I know, it's been awhile since I blogged. A LOT has happened... not necessarily good. But we'll see what the future holds sooner or later right? I'm currently without my laptop... it's in rehab, as Stace would say. :( I'm sad about it, but I'm hoping when I get it back it will be better than ever. I have new pix to post of Bea, but I don't feel like getting up to get the photo wand. It's Sunday, my lazy day. Be grateful that I'm even blogging. :) Dez and I started a body boot camp class this month! And its tough! But we walk away feeling like we've actually worked out... So we'll see. I know, boring blog, why did I even bother?? Just wanted to let you know that I was still alive. I'll try to get those pix up later today.

This is a red 'rugby' hat I had made for Bea, for all the wintry rugby games we'll be going to!

Did I ever tell you...

...about the second time I went to get spray tanned? It was a couple of days before we were to leave for my 'cousins' wedding in Noodles. I had an afternoon appointment, things went smoothly, until I had to give Bea a bath. I had been bathing her in her tub, in the family room. (Just because there is more space.) I was sitting beside her trying to wash her up and, of course, she starts kicking and splashing water everywhere! As soon as the water hit my leg I freaked out! I saw the drops slowly make they're way down my leg, leaving a streaky trail! I then realized that I left a couple of tan spots on the carpet too! (They've yet to come out, but that's another story.) I was sure that I would have water streaks down my legs, but after drying my legs off and waiting for the allotted time, I discovered that I was still perfectly tanned. That was a close one!

Now we're on the road to Noodles. And I have to feed Bea... well I didn't take into consideration that some of my tan might rub off on her! She had a little 'tan' on the side of her head! When I lamented about her having gotten some tan on her head my dad, who was our driver for the trip, quietly asked, 'They spray your boobs?' To which I replied, 'NO! But her head was resting on my arm, that had the tanning product on it!' So funny. I was able to get it off of Bea, but I thought right then, that I probably shouldn't get another spray tan until AFTER I've finished nursing Bea. It was somewhat of a disaster the second time around... but it was all my fault. I just didn't really think it through the second time. Needless to say I won't be tan for my cousin's upcoming nuptials in Louisiana. I just hope I don't have a farmer tan though! Ugh!
