Bea's first pumpkin!

This evening Beatrice helped me carve our first pumpkin of the season. The special thing about THIS pumpkin is that we grew it ourselves!

So she didn't actually get her hands dirty, but she enjoyed shoving the knife through the open hole and pretending she was scraping the insides! Below is the finished product. (One down two more to go!)

Swine Flu hits the Du Toit household!

Over the weekend I noticed Bea was a little more irritable than usual. Sunday I could really hear it in her voice and she started coughing a little. She didn't have a fever, but today Izak stayed home with her and took her to the doctor. It's a good thing that we did take her because she tested positive for the swine flu. :( She's on medication and she can't go back to daycare until she has two days with no fever. I called my ob/gyn and their protocol is if my husband or child were to test positive then I would immediately start on the tamiflu as well. So here I am, on swine flu medication, feeling fine. Fingers crossed that I don't get it, Izak doesn't get it and Bea shakes it off soon. Not sure where she got it in the first place.

Beatrice and the Spider

Every Halloween I like to add to my growing collection of Halloween decorations. A couple of weeks ago we purchased this giant black spider. Beatrice decided to teach it a thing or two:

Take that!

And THAT!

I think the spider knows who's boss. :)

Annoyed!

So I am sooo annoyed right now! I tried to run to the bank. BIG mistake. It being a Friday and all. There was a huge line of cars and people at both the drive up and walk up tellers... I didn't even stop. Then my doctor suggested that I go to a certain Walgreens to get my flu shot. I pulled up - it's in a sort of crappy part of town, and walked inside. There is another line. Three people at each station. Two guys sitting in chairs, not sure if they were waiting or waiting with someone. Another pregnant girl who was next in line and some thug looking guy. I stood there for about 10 min. and said 'eff it' in my head and left. I am so not in the mood for lines on a Friday afternoon. Gotta run to Tulare to pick up my costume for tomorrow, hopefully the bank there won't be busy and I can grab money there.. Ugh! Then I have to find where to get a damn flue shot! Ugh! Ugh!

Super sonic hearing?

In the beginning when Bea was a tiny baby I swear I could hear her breathing over Izak and Rugby's snoring. Of course she was in the same room with us then. I just wonder if my hearing is getting better or if I just know my daughter all too well. This afternoon I was getting ready to go out. I was in my bathroom doing my hair and make-up. Beatrice was in the bathroom with me at some point going through drawers and taking stuff out. She took out my toothpaste and wondered into the game room, not far from my room. I went to see what she was doing and she had taken the cap off and she was licking the top of it. I promptly took it away from her. Instead of throwing a fit she just kind of crinkled up her nose. I then went back into the bathroom to put the toothpaste away and finish getting ready. Now, I had left her in the game room on one of Izak's game chairs. As I was putting on my eye shadow I hear her getting into something... It could have been almost anything in the game room and that would have been fine because we child proofed that room as best we could. But something told me to go check on her. (Was whatever she was playing with sound different in any slight way to me? Or did I just know that she was getting into something she shouldn't be getting into?) I stepped across the hall towards the game room only to find Beatrice in the guest bathroom with the box of band-aids on the floor and a handful of them in her hand. Did I mention she gets into everything!? I took the box of band-aids away from her as well. Luckily Izak stepped in and got her occupied with something out in the family room so I could finish getting ready. But that is basically any given morning for me unless she actually sleeps till 7 a.m. And on most mornings Izak isn't there to occupy her and it can be quite a chore! Oh well I love her so.
Beatrice is getting way too clever for her own good. Just last week she learned how to unlock the outside doors at Gigi and Grandpy's house. And today while I was getting ready she grabbed my mascara and twisted the top off! She is just getting to be more and more of a handful! What will she get into next?

Birthday to You!

I got it on video!

Birthday Party!

Beatrice was invited to Adam Brantley's 2nd birthday party tonight. She was so cute! She carried his gift in to the party. But once she saw all the people she got shy and wanted to stay in her Daddy's arms for a good part of the night. She eventually warmed up to everyone and acted like she owned the place... well sort of. She didn't talk much but I figure its because she doesn't really know the other kids as well as she knows the kids at her daycare. She ate pizza, ice cream and cake and even tried to take some of the birthday boy's presents! She didn't take them far though. Beatrice really enjoyed the goodie bags and she was very generous giving everyone a goodie from her bag! Earlier this evening I was driving home with Bea telling her about Adam's birthday party, and she would say: 'party!' Then I would say, 'Yes, it's Adam's birthday.' A couple of times she said, 'Adam's birthday' but then it just came down to, 'my birthday!' I tried to teach her the birthday song and she can sing, 'birthday to you!' I hope to get it on video tomorrow if I remember. :)
Stacey is coming into town this weekend! Unless something comes up for her AGAIN! I'm excited to spend some time with her... Although I don't know how much time we'll get to spend together since I'll be working! Oh well, seeing her for just a little bit is better than nothing I suppose. :)

I passed!

Some of you may know that I took my glucose test last Friday. Well, instead of waiting till NEXT Friday (when I see my dr.) I called to see if I could get the results from my test and guess what!? It came back normal! I DO NOT have to do the 3 hour one again! Thank the lord! While it would have been nice to have 3 whole hours somewhat to myself so I could... oh I dunno, maybe read a good book, I was not looking forward to having my blood drawn 4 times in one day! I'm very happy about that.
In other news Beatrice is still talking up a storm. She's even calling my Dad Grampy now. It's so cute. She'll be coloring on the windows over at his place (with special window crayons) and she'll say: "Grampy sit!" And point down to the floor right next to her. She loves him a lot. She's also been sleeping in her big girl bed regularly. She just has the tendency to wake up some nights calling for me, or she'll just come and get me and I'm expected to crawl into bed with her. We'll see how that goes once Camille makes her debut.

Open Now!

I have quite the little demanding talker here. This morning Beatrice wanted me to open a thing of toothbrushes for her. I refused. She kept saying: "Open Now! Mommy." It was so cute, but I stood my ground. And she'd continue on, "Open Now!" She eventually figured out how to open the toothbrushes herself. But she's so funny with all the new things she says.

Pumpkin Patch!

Saturday morning Bea and I got ready to go to the Pumpkin Patch with the Brantley's AND Gigi and GrandPee! (Or Ampee as Bea's been calling him.) Bea has her purse, sunglasses and juice cup and she's ready to go!
Adam and Bea pose as rabbits!

We don't know why but Beatrice really didn't want to stand in front of this thing.

Bea in the corn box! She hated it last year, but this year she LOVED it.

At some point Beatrice had GrandPee holding 3 pumpkins. We ended up not getting any pumpkins at this time. We're going to go back with Daddy and get a few maybe this week.

Beatrice really enjoyed playing in the dirt! I think that was her favorite thing getting into the dirt and mud!

Today Gigi called at 8 a.m. this morning. She and GrandPee wanted to take Bea to Storybook Land. Of course I let them because I had to bake four batches of pecan tassies for a friend. It was nice to have the time and the chance to crank those out without having to keep Bea away from the hot oven. Thank you Gigi and GrandPee!!

In other news Camille is doing well. I have to take my glucose text next week... blah! Not looking forward to that. I just hope I pass it this time 100% because I DON'T want to do the 3 hour one again! Ugh!

I think for the rest of the day Bea and I will just chill. That's it for now!

Beatrice's First Bite

Bea was bitten by a little boy at her school the other day! He's about 3 months younger than she is and he somehow managed to bite her on the inside of her elbow! It looks awful! I guess they were fighting over a toy!
Also Bea is so cute with her new little phrases. The other day we couldn't find her Halloween witch Barbie and she was walking around the house saying: "Barbie, where are you?"
Tonight we had a girls night since Daddy is out of town. We watched Project Runway and just chilled. It was actually a pretty relaxing evening.
Tomorrow we hit the pumpkin patch with the Brantley's! Yay!
