My Wednesday was a busy one! (But my Wednesdays normally are since Bea has dance.) Yesterday Izak and I went to visit our local Montessori school. I wasn't really interested in it after speaking with some of my teacher friends and relatives. I had made the appointment last week and I just figured we should keep the appointment. Anyways Izak and I got to observe a class and it was very interesting. Most of the kids were doing their own thing, some were working together on things. The classroom was quiet and the teachers were kind of just wondering around here and there making comments and suggestions to the kids. Some of the kids even came up and talked to us, which was cute, but I was afraid the kids would get in trouble or we would get in trouble for engaging them in conversation. (Neither of us did get in trouble though.)
I found it intriguing watching one little girl in particular doing her activity. She had wooden flat pieces with apple trees painted on them and pre-drilled holes in each piece. There was a number in red in the bottom left hand corner and then that number was counted out in red dots on the top left. This little girl was identifying the written number as well as the picture of the number counted out. She then had little red 'apple' pegs that she would put into the apple tree to complete the number. I don't know why it struck me but it just did. Each tree had the same amount of pre-drilled holes in it too.
Then another girl was matching pictures to three letters. For example she had a card that had 'S' in the middle and another one that had 'N.' (I don't remember what the third letter was.) At first I was thinking that she matched the pictures up wrong. She had a picture of a horse on the card with an 'S.' And she had a picture of a fan on the card with an 'N.' I was thinking: Well that's wrong! Then the teacher came over and I realized she was matching images that END with that letter!
Izak and I walked away really thinking that we'd want Bea to go there. She's so independent already. We also realized that we need to choose our words better when it comes to communicating with Beatrice. I tried really hard last night to really think of different ways to ask her to do things. It worked for the most part. I intend to try harder to think of different ways to use my words to get her to corporate and help out more around the house and just in general.
We were also going to stop by another preschool that is affiliated with a church here, but I just did not like the location at all! :( So we didn't go in. I have one other place I would like to check out and then we'll see. We put Bea and Camille on a waiting list for the Montessori school. (Apparently some kids that aren't even born yet are on a waiting list! How crazy is that!?)
I'm really hoping a spot will open up for Bea in the summer or the fall... fingers crossed!
Since Bea had her dance class last night I made sure I went outside to see if she was getting the chance to fully participate in the class. And it looked like she was. I was very pleased. I think there were two new girls in the class so that might have helped too.
Also poor Millie fell last night and made her nose bleed! I was with Bea at dance and Izak sends me a picture of a bloody tissue! Needless to say I freaked out! My poor baby... looks like she has her daddy's sensitive nose.
In Izak news: He mailed of his citizenship papers today! Our next step is to wait for him to take the test and get sworn in and he'll be an American citizen! Finally huh!? He'll be able to vote AND be called to be on a jury!
